Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman on Sunday scored his first Serie A goal of the season, but it ended in disappointment for Atalanta as they suffered a tough defeat away at Fiorentina.
The Nigerian international found the back of the net for the first time this season while playing for Atalanta.
However, his brilliant effort couldn’t prevent Atalanta from suffering a narrow 3-2 loss to Fiorentina.
Lookman’s impressive performance for Nigeria during the international break earned him a spot in Atalanta’s starting lineup for the clash against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Initially, things looked promising for Atalanta as Teun Koopmeiners scored a goal in the 21st minute.
But Fiorentina responded swiftly with two goals courtesy of Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez Quarta.
Fiorentina took the lead into halftime, but Atalanta came back strong in the second half, with Lookman shining for his team in the 53rd minute.
He executed a seamless passing combination with Marten De Roon, who provided an exquisite pass into the box.
Lookman positioned himself in the heart of the box and unleashed a powerful strike that found the back of Fiorentina’s net, leveling the score at 2-2.

Despite their efforts, Atalanta couldn’t find an equalizer, and the match ended with Fiorentina emerging victorious.
