Paul Onuachu, the Super Eagles striker, is celebrating once more, having scored a crucial debut goal for his new team, Trabzonspor, in a resounding 3-0 victory against rival Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig.
This thrilling match took place at the Papara Park on a Sunday.
The 29-years-old forward recently made a move from the English Championship side to Trabzonspor, sealing the deal on a season-long loan after a challenging six months at Southampton.
To the delight of fans and head coach Nenad Bjelica, Onuachu was granted his first start, and he didn’t disappoint.
He found the back of the net just before the half-hour mark, proving he still knows where the goalpost is.
Greek midfielder Anastasios Bakasetas added to the excitement by doubling the lead for Trabzonspor with only four minutes left in the first half.
Then, in a stunning display of brilliance, Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder Edin Visca secured a 3-0 victory for the Black Sea Storm shortly after the hour mark.
Unfortunately, Onuachu was substituted at halftime for Turkish forward Enis Destan, and it remains uncertain whether he sustained an injury during the first half of the match.
This triumph propelled Trabzonspor to the fifth position in the league table, amassing 9 points after five matches, a promising start to their campaign.
Prior to his move to Southampton in January, Onuachu enjoyed a prolific stint in Belgium with KRC Genk, tallying an impressive 85 goals in 134 appearances over four years.
However, his time in England’s St Mary’s Stadium was less fruitful, failing to score a goal in 11 league appearances before the club’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the previous season.
Looking ahead, Onuachu has his sights set on returning to Jose Pesiro’s Super Eagles squad for next month’s friendly match against Saudi Arabia, eager to rejoin the team after missing their impressive 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe just a week ago.
