NPFL outfit Kwara United has faced a lot of criticism recently after the team management parted ways with well over 22 players ahead of their upcoming campaign.
Well, in an attempt to justify their recent actions, the team’s administration has explained the reason for their decision to do away with the players, Footballrover reports.
The Harmony Boys announced the players’ dismissal on Monday, as reported by Footballrover.
The club’s chairman, Kumbi Titiloye, has now come forward to justify the drastic decision, insisting that the club is tired of being underestimated.
In an interview with the media, Titiloye revealed that the decision to part ways with such a significant number of players was not taken lightly.
He explained that the departures were due to a combination of factors, including players seeking greener pastures abroad, performance-related issues, and mutual agreements.
Despite the upheaval, the chairman expressed huge confidence in the club’s ability to compete for top honours in the upcoming NPFL season.
“We are no longer content with being underestimated. Contrary to popular belief, Kwara United stands as one of the top five clubs in the nation,” he declared.
As the club embarks on a rebuilding process, Titiloye appealed for patience from the fans, assuring them that the management is working diligently to assemble a competitive squad.
Kwara United’s journey to reclaim its former glory will begin on September 7th or 8th, when they host Niger Tornadoes in the opening match of the 2024–25 NPFL season.
