A moment of brilliance from Jacob Adebanjo, who scored a stunning goal against Mikkeli, wasn’t enough to save KPV Kokkola from a crushing defeat as Mikkeli unleashed a four-goal storm in their Finland Ykkonen league clash.
Despite Adebanjo finding the back of the net, the visitors proved too strong, leaving KPV Kokkola reeling, Footballrover reports.
Jacob Adebanjo’s goal against Mikkeli: A lone spark
While Adebanjo bagged a memorable goal against Mikkeli, it ultimately wasn’t enough to secure any points for KPV Kokkola, who succumbed to a heavy home defeat.
Over the weekend, defender Adebanjo delivered a moment of hope for KPV Kokkola, notching his second goal of the season.
However, his solitary strike couldn’t prevent his team from falling to a 4-1 home defeat against a dominant Mikkeli side at the KPV Kokkola stadium.
Mikkeli orchestrated a commanding victory in the five-goal thriller, all thanks to an unstoppable hat-trick from Torfiq Ali Abubakar.
The away team drew first blood in the 39th minute through Abubakar, but KPV Kokkola responded just before halftime with Adebanjo delivering the equaliser in stoppage time.
Mikkeli’s fury overwhelms Adebanjo and KPV
The respite was short-lived for the home side.
After the break, Mustapha Coker restored Mikkeli’s lead in the 57th minute, setting the stage for Abubakar to complete his hat-trick with two late goals – one in the 89th minute and another in added time – sealing a comprehensive victory for Mikkeli.
The clinical, confident, and controlled attack from Mikkeli proved to be simply too much for KPV Kokkola.
This defeat marks the first in four matches for Jacob Adebanjo and his teammates, leaving them in 5th place with 11 points from eight games.
They will now focus on their next fixture against EPS as they look to bounce back to winning ways.
