Nottingham Forest new signing and Super Eagles forward – Taiwo Awoniyi is thrilled to have joined the Premier League newcomers and says playing in the English League has always been a dream of his.
In order to recruit the 24-year-old striker as their first player after being promoted to the Premier League, Nottingham Forest smashed the team’s transfer record.
The Nigerian international signed a five-year contract at the City Ground on Thursday after completing his medical, and the top-flight new arrivals handed Union Berlin £17m for him.

The striker recorded 15 goals in the Bundesliga last season, and Forest outbid several clubs in England and Germany for his services.
“I’m very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest. It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.” – Awoniyi said.
Prior to moving permanently to Germany last summer, Awoniyi had a six-year stint with Liverpool during which time he spent time on loan at several clubs.
Worth the wait, Reds? 😉

Due to a sell-on clause, Forest will pay 10% of the price to the Premier League runners-up.
As the Forest owners support the club’s scouting team to put together a squad capable of remaining in the Premier League, it was anticipated that Awoniyi will be the first of many acquisitions this summer.
The person that will miss Taiwo Awoniyi’s departure from Berlin the most is my daughter.
When her classmates found out she had met Taiwo, her clout grew.

“There’s been a lot of interest in Taiwo from other Premier League clubs, and other clubs across Europe, so we’re delighted that he’s chosen Nottingham Forest. Our recruitment and coaching teams have been monitoring his progress closely over the last few months. He’s a player who we really believe in and we look forward to him going on to fulfil his potential and become a top Premier League striker with Nottingham Forest.” – Cooper said.
