Iran surprisingly defeated 10-man Wales with two goals in stoppage time to maintain their chances of moving on to the World Cup knockout round.
Early on, Moore’s poked effort was blocked by Hosseini, denying Wales its best opportunity of the game.
Following that, Iran took control. Gholizadeh had a goal disallowed in the first half for offside before launching a counterattack after the break.
Prior to Wales being down to 10, Azmoun and Gholizadeh came close and slammed against the post within nine seconds of one another.
Hennessey received a yellow card for tripping Taremi outside the area before a VAR review changed it to a red.
Iran continued to pressure the Welsh defense after that, and in the 98th minute, they broke the tie. It was accomplished by their super sub – Cheshmi, who struck the ball from outside the box and into the bottom corner.
Three minutes later, with Page’s team pushing men forward in search of a goal, Iran increased their lead when Taremi passed the ball to Rezaeian on the wing, who sniped it over Ward.
Iran played considerably better in the second half, and two goals by Cheshmi and Rezaeian very late in the game gave them the victory they deserved.
Iran’s final Group B encounter in the World Cup will be against the United States, followed by Wales vs. England.
