Ikorodu City left-back Harrison Austin Uzondu made history on Monday afternoon after delivering a remarkable performance that inspired his team to a dramatic 4-2 victory over Lobi Stars.
Uzondu’s exceptional display, which saw him contribute three assists, sparked so much excitement as fans marvelled at the impact of his game-changing play, Footballrover reports.
But that wasn’t all—the left-back achieved something no one had managed since May 2023.
Despite early-season struggles that left Ikorodu City battling inconsistency, Uzondu’s performance in this six-goal thriller marked a turning point.
His decisive contributions secured Ikorodu City’s second league win, ending a streak of frustrating results that included one draw and three consecutive defeats.
The result was a much-needed confidence boost as the team fights to climb the NPFL standings.
Uzondu’s three assists also earned him a spot in the record books. The Ikorodu City left-back became the first player to notch three assists in a single NPFL match since Sodiq Ismail’s standout performance for Remo Stars against Kwara United in May 2023.
His name will now be linked with one of the league’s rarest feats—an accolade not easily forgotten.
The action-packed match began with a lightning start from Ikorodu City, as Salau Yusuf netted his first NPFL goal just two minutes in.
By the 19th minute, the Oga Boys had doubled their advantage, thanks to Uzondu’s pinpoint corner, which allowed Emmanuel Solomon to find the back of the net with a sublime effort from outside the box.
Lobi Stars fought back with two quick goals in first-half stoppage time, courtesy of Ifeanyi Assurance, bringing the score level at 2-2 by the break.
But the Lagos City Boys refused to be rattled, and Uzondu would once again prove his worth.
Ikorodu City left-back seals the win with record-breaking display
Undeterred by Lobi Stars’ comeback, Ikorodu City regained the lead in the 56th minute.
A perfectly timed cross from Uzondu found Alade Solomon, who headed the ball into the net.
Just two minutes later, Rivio Ayemwenre curled a stunning shot past the Lobi goalkeeper, courtesy of yet another assist from the Ikorodu City left-back—his third of the match.
The defender was later named MOTM for his incredible contribution to his team’s success.
Thanks to Uzondu’s commanding performance, Ikorodu City now find themselves unbeaten in their last three NPFL outings, securing two wins and a draw.
Their recent success has seen them score eight goals across those games, propelling them to 17th place in the league standings with eight points.
Ikorodu City’s next challenge will be an away match against Enyimba on Sunday.
With their newfound momentum and Uzondu’s record-breaking form, the Oga Boys will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak and continue their climb up the table.
