Super-sub Ibrahim Yusuf bagged a brace on Saturday evening to inspire West Armenia to a convincing 2-0 victory over Alashkert in the Armenian Premier League.
Ibrahim Yusuf’s game-changing performance
The Nigerian forward, who came on as a second-half substitute, scored both goals in the away win at Alashkert Stadium, marking his third goal of the season in just four appearances.
After a tough first half that ended goalless, the introduction of Yusuf shortly after the restart changed the entire story.
The 20-year-old replaced Martin Grigoryan and needed only 24 minutes on the pitch to break the deadlock with a fine header.
Two minutes before stoppage time, Yusuf doubled his tally by dispossessing a defender and firing the ball into the net, securing his team’s second win of the season.
West Armenia’s season turnaround with Yusuf’s help
West Armenia had endured a challenging start to their campaign, suffering four straight defeats before securing their first win.
Following a subsequent loss on matchday six, Yusuf’s heroics helped lift the team to their second league win.
Fellow Nigerian Sunday Victor Chimezie also saw some action, coming on as a substitute in the 82nd minute to replace Zakhar Tarasenko, though he had limited time to make an impact.
The victory moved West Armenia up to 9th place in the 11-team table, with six points from seven games.
They now look ahead to their next fixture, a home game against Syunik at Junior Sport Stadium on Wednesday.
