The Columbus Crew, in their second away match of the 2025 MLS season, experienced a setback despite an initial promising moment.
The Crew drew first blood when Ibrahim Aliyu scored his first goal for Columbus Crew in the 15th minute, heading in a cross from Mohamed Farsi.
The 23-year-old ex-Nigerian youth international, making his second consecutive start, finally marked his debut on the scoresheet since joining the club in April.
However, Charlotte responded swiftly. Patrick Agyemang equalised just four minutes later and then put Charlotte ahead shortly after, capitalising on a through ball.
Amundsen levelled the score in the 65th minute, setting up a tense final period.
Crew’s efforts thwarted despite Aliyu’s promise
Just when a draw seemed likely, Biel scored the decisive goal for Charlotte with ten minutes remaining, handing the Crew their first away loss of the season and ending their five-match unbeaten streak.
This result pushes the Black & Gold to 5th place in the Eastern Conference. Despite the disappointing outcome, the debut goal for Aliyu offers him hope for more to come.
They will have a quick opportunity to bounce back as they look ahead of hosting Nashville SC on Wednesday night at Lower dot com Field.
