The Rivers State Football Coaches Association, RSFCA, took a significant step in enhancing the capabilities of its members by organising a highly impactful one-day seminar on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The RSFCA seminar, themed “Training The Trainers”, drew enthusiastic participation from football coaches across Rivers State, footballrover reports.

The event was held at the prestigious Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Unlocking Potential: Insights from the RSFCA’s training

The seminar featured a diverse panel of resource persons from academia, sports, and both public and private sectors, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience for the attending football coaches.

Among the notable speakers was Pastor Idah Peterside, a respected sports journalist and former Super Eagles goalkeeper, adding a touch of experience and insight to the proceedings.

Professor Matthew Wigwe from the University of Port Harcourt delved into the crucial aspects of “Nutrition and Recovery” for athletes, while Professor Vipene, the Director of Sports at Rivers State University, shared his expertise on the “Characteristics of a Good Football Coach”.

Further enriching the seminar, Dimannis Charles presented on “Management of Leadership”, and Coach Raphael Akunna explored “Training Conditioning – Different Warm-up Techniques”.

In her address, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Rivers State, Mrs Ibiwari Wokoma, represented by Dr Prudence Somiary Harry, talked about the timeliness and importance of the one-day seminar for football coaches in the state.

She lauded the coaches as “leaders, nation builders, role models, architects of excellence, and the first whistle of young talents.”

Mrs Wokoma also urged them to remain focused and united in their mission to cultivate a vibrant sports culture within Rivers State.
