Finidi George and his Rivers United side are back at it again, looking set to lead the team to Bayelsa for yet another preseason outing once more.
The Garden City Outfit has officially announced that they will be participating in a new preseason tournament in Bayelsa, Footballrover reports.
The tournament is expected to kick off on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Fresh off their stint at the Valuejet Cup, the Garden City outfit has confirmed their participation in the Governor Douye Diri Preseason Football Tournament.
The announcement, made on the club’s X account, means Finidi George and his troops will have another chance to fine-tune their squad before the new NPFL season.
Recall that heart-stopping semifinal loss to Ikorodu City FC at the Valuejet Cup? Well, this tournament could be the perfect opportunity for redemption and improvement.
The eight-team tournament will be a battleground for top-flight clubs, offering the Port Harcourt-based team a chance to measure themselves against tough competition.
The Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa will host the action as the Pride of Rivers aim to leave their mark.
“The Pride of Rivers is looking forward to a productive tournament,” the club declared on X. “It will help the team fine-tune its strategy and build momentum ahead of the new season.”
After a somewhat disappointing eighth-place finish last season, Finidi will surely be hoping to help Rivers United make amends.
Their preseason campaign kicks off with a clash against Bendel Insurance.
With preseason in full swing, the team will be looking to hit the ground running when the league starts.
Let’s see if Finidi George can guide Rivers United to glory this time around!
