Stellenbosch FC has finally and officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian defender Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill, a move that has long been anticipated.
Recall that Footballrover first reported the departure of the defender back in September.
The 25-year-old right-back, known for his versatility, will now make his mark in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after a delayed transfer from Rivers United.
His arrival, initially hindered by work permit issues, marks an exciting new chapter in his career.
What has led to this moment, and how will Kazie fit into his new team’s plans? Read on to find out more about this significant signing.
Enyinnaya Kazie’s journey to Stellenbosch FC
Kazie’s football career has been nothing but an impressive one. Before his move to Stellenbosch FC on a free transfer, the former NPFL star played for several teams, including Kwara United and Delta Force.
However, it was at the Pride of Rivers where he truly made a name for himself. During the 2021/2022 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Kazie was a standout performer, contributing a goal and three assists.
His consistency on the field played a crucial role in the Garden City side’s triumphant campaign.
Despite his success, Kazie’s journey to the PSL was delayed due to administrative hurdles, including work permit issues that held up his transfer.
However, now fully cleared to join the South African club, the defender is ready to step up and fill the gap left by Deano van Rooyen’s departure from the team to join Orlando Pirates.
With nearly 200 career appearances under his belt, Kazie is set to bring valuable experience to Stellenbosch FC.
The South African club has been in need of a reliable defender, and Kazie’s ability to play both as a right-back and a central defender makes him an ideal addition to their squad.
His ability to command the backline will be crucial in strengthening Stellenbosch’s defence as they aim to make an impact in the PSL this season.
Kazie Enyinnaya is now ready to embrace his move to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), following in the path of Stanley Nwabali.
Meanwhile, Kazie has made a bold statement after joining Stellenbosch FC, vowing to take the team’s MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup campaigns to the next level.
“First of all, I want to thank God for bringing me here after a long wait. I’m very happy to be here and to be part of the Stellenbosch family,” said Godswill.
“It is a great club that has already achieved some great things, like reaching the MTN8 final this season and competing in the CAF Confederation Cup. I am looking forward to adding to that with my experience.
“I want to contribute positively on the pitch. And I promise I will do everything within my reach to ensure that the fans and the coaches are happy,” the defender said as quoted by FarPost.
