Emmanuel Ekong, son of former Super Eagles midfielder Prince Ikpe Ekong, made a memorable impact in Empoli’s Coppa Italia clash against Fiorentina.
The 22-year-old striker scored the opening goal in a dramatic 2-2 draw, helping his side secure a hard-fought victory after a tense penalty shootout,Ā footballrover reports.
Empoli entered the match with little hope, having struggled with a poor run of form, winning just one of their last five games.
However, Ekong quickly silenced the doubters by putting his team ahead just four minutes into the game.

His well-executed right-footed shot, following an interception by Liam Henderson, beat Fiorentinaās goalkeeper, Pietro Terracciano, and handed the visitors an early advantage.
Fiorentina, however, mounted a strong response. Moise Kean levelled the score just before the hour mark, and Riccardo Sottil put the home side ahead in the 71st minute.
Despite the setback, Emmanuel and his teammates fought back valiantly. With just 15 minutes remaining, Sebastiano Esposito equalised, sending the match to penalties.
Though Emmanuel’s brilliant performance was marred by a missed penalty during the shootout, the visitors managed to triumph 4-3, securing their place in the quarterfinals stage of the competition.
This match also marked the Nigerian forward’s second goal in the Italian cup, a notable achievement considering his struggles in Serie A, where he has yet to register a goal or assist in 11 appearances.
Emmanuel, who represented Sweden at various youth levels, remains eligible to play for Nigeria and is set to join his teammates for their upcoming match against Hellas Verona.
