Rangers coach Barry Ferguson has heaped praise on Cyriel Dessers following the striker’s standout performance in the 3-1 win over Dundee United, where he delivered his 50th goal for the club.
The Nigerian forward netted a brace, including a composed penalty, to help the Light Blues close their home campaign on a high at Ibrox, Footballrover reports.
The result, sealed with a third goal from Nico Raskin, delighted the Rangers head coach and continued his strong impact since taking charge.

Speaking to RangersTV after the game, coach Barry Ferguson was full of admiration for Dessers, who now has 28 goals this season and 50 overall since joining the club from Cremonese in July 2023.
“He comes in for unfair criticism, in my opinion,” Ferguson stated. “One thing about him is he always gives 100 per cent, and his goal return this season has been phenomenal.”
The coach admitted he was pleasantly surprised when regular penalty taker James Tavernier handed the spot-kick duties to Cyriel Dessers, a moment that sealed his milestone.
“I was a bit surprised. Normally Tav steps up and puts those in the back of the net, but fair play to him,” Ferguson said. “He understands that it means a lot to Cyriel, but I was just thinking to myself he better score – and thankfully he did.”

With just one league match remaining, the Nigerian international is expected to lead the line once again, with the Rangers boss hinting at more game time for the striker.
“I am delighted for him. I’m sure he’ll want me to start him on Saturday so he can hopefully get one or two more,” Ferguson noted.
The 50-goal achievement is a significant benchmark in Dessers’ career, and with the backing of the Rangers manager, the Super Eagles forward looks determined to end the campaign on a high.
