Matchday Four of the 2024/25 NWFL Super Six served up thrilling action, starting with a tough South-South derby between Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens—two title contenders determined to tighten their grip on the championship race.
Edo Queens stay in the hunt as NWFL Super 6 heats up
Fresh off a 2-0 bounce-back win against Naija Ratels, the reigning champions Edo ladies came into this encounter with renewed purpose, Footballrover reports.
On the other side, Bayelsa Queens were riding high on an unbeaten streak, having secured wins over Rivers Angels and Remo Stars Ladies, along with a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa Amazons.
But it was the Benin-based side who had the last laugh, edging Bayelsa Queens 1-0 in a tightly contested match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Goodness Osigwe’s goal on the stroke of halftime proved decisive, sealing a massive win and handing Bayelsa their first defeat of the NWFL Super 6.
The Moses Aduku-led side held firm in the second half to secure their second victory of the playoff campaign—keeping their hopes of retaining the NWFL Super 6 crown alive.
Rivers Angels finally break the curse in NWFL Super Six
In the second match of the day, Rivers Angels locked horns with Naija Ratels in a game fuelled more by pride than title aspirations.
After a disappointing start to the NWFL Super Six—with just one point from their opening three matches—the Garden City outfit were desperate for a turnaround.
It took the Jewels of Rivers just 25 minutes to find their rhythm, with Titilayo Aweda scoring before halftime to break the deadlock.
Late in the game, Mary Moses added a second after a precise free-kick from Catherine Kenneth.
That 2-0 win gave Rivers ladies their first victory of the Super Six and some much-needed confidence heading into the final stretch of the tournament and their FA Cup game with Ibom Angels next week Saturday.
However, with two matchdays to go, the Queens of Edo remain firmly in the title picture, while Rivers babes will hope to build on this long-awaited win for their final game of the competition, knowing that it’s not their year this time around.
The third match of the day featured two high-flying teams—Nasarawa Amazons and Remo Stars Ladies—on Matchday Four of the 2024/25 NWFL Super Six.
Both sides are serious title contenders, determined not to slip up in the championship race.
Coming into this crucial clash, just a single point separated the two in the standings, with each side eager to secure a win to boost their title hopes.
Nasarawa Amazons had been impressive in the playoffs, going unbeaten with two wins and a draw prior to this fixture.
Remo Stars Ladies, meanwhile, began their Super Six campaign with two narrow 1-0 victories over defending champions Edo Queens and Naija Ratels.
However, their momentum was halted by a 2-0 defeat to Bayelsa Queens, ending their perfect start.
Despite the high stakes and anticipation, the clash between the two sides failed to live up to expectations, as it ended in a goalless draw.
The NWFL Super 6 is far from over, and fans can expect more entertainment in the coming fixtures.
