Chioma Okafor has officially joined the North Carolina Courage on a three-year guaranteed contract, a move that signals a major step in her career and adds fresh attacking power to the NWSL side.

The deal runs through the 2028 season, with a club option for 2029, positioning the Nigerian forward as a long-term piece of the team’s rebuild, Footballrover reports.

Okafor arrives with an impressive background after helping the Super Falcons win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, securing Nigeria’s record 10th continental crown.

Her experience with the national team, combined with her steady rise in the United States, gives the Courage a forward who already understands high-pressure football.

Before turning professional, she made her mark at UConn, where she became one of the most reliable goal threats in the program.

Across four seasons, she scored 30 goals and added five assists in 57 appearances. Those numbers reflect a player who consistently produced key moments while leading the Huskies’ attack.

A journey shaped by choice, ambition, and steady growth

Born in Blantyre, Malawi, Okafor was eligible to play for Nigeria through her father and chose to represent the Super Falcons.

She moved to the United States in 2019 and attended the Berkshire School in Massachusetts before committing to UConn, where her development accelerated.

Her college career was full of honors. She earned First Team All-Big East recognition in each of her final three seasons after being named to the Second Team as a freshman.

Okafor also reached the semifinal stage of the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy and appeared on the 2025 preseason watch list.

Her consistency earned her three All-American selections, marking her as one of the most exciting forwards in college football.

Now, she begins a new chapter in North Carolina — and she’s fully ready for it.
