Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem was the star of the weekend, providing a crucial assist that helped his team, FC Cincinnati, secure a commanding home league victory over CF Montreal in the MLS.
Awaziem’s brilliance came through as he set up the final goal of the game, ensuring Cincinnati’s 4-1 triumph at TQL Stadium, Footballrover reports.
The match was one-sided, with Cincinnati dominating every aspect and fully deserving their victory.
This win was a much-needed boost for Cincinnati, who had been struggling with back-to-back defeats.
They had previously lost 4-2 to Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup Playoffs and suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Inter Miami.
But on Sunday, the team returned to winning ways in style.
The first half of the match was a tight affair, with few clear-cut chances.
However, after Awaziem narrowly missed a goal with a header from a corner kick, Kevin Kelsy broke the deadlock just nine minutes before halftime, scoring the opener courtesy of a fortunate deflection.

The second half was a different story, with Luca Orellano scoring twice in quick succession to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 3-0.
His first goal came from a deflected free-kick in the 53rd minute, and his second was a stunning long-range effort that left the crowd in shock and jubilation at the same time.
Awaziem then capped off his performance by setting up Brazilian forward Sergio Santos for the fourth goal.
His pinpoint overhead pass from a quick throw-in found Santos, who skilfully held off his marker before chipping the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net.

Although Ghanaian forward Kwadwo Opoku pulled one back for CF Montreal just nine minutes before full-time, the damage had already been done.
The match was an entertaining affair that could have seen even more goals, but it ultimately ended in a thrilling five-goal spectacle.
Chidozie Awaziem and his fellow Nigerian, Obinna Nwobodo, who also featured in the match, savoured every moment of the victory.
Despite the recent setbacks, the 27-year-old defender and his teammates have secured three wins in their last five outings across all competitions.
