Making his return following a severe car accident that left damages worth 200,000 euros, Boniface’s comeback was both inspiring and bittersweet, footballrover reports.

Although the Super Eagles striker opened the scoring with a stunning strike, Leverkusen couldn’t hold their lead, leaving Boniface frustrated yet determined.

The recent accident sidelined Boniface from Leverkusen’s Champions League clash with Brest, but his quick recovery has boosted his confidence.

He returned to the starting lineup at Weserstadion, eager to make an impact. Despite his goal, the result kept Leverkusen five points off the top spot, adding urgency to their title chase.

The Nigerian international celebrated his return, sharing his gratitude for the support from fans, claiming that it feels good to be back. He also noted the uplifting messages he received.

It felt good to come back from such a situation. I am really happy with the reaction and the messages from the fans. I am happy to be playing football again and to feel their support,” Boniface told Bild.

Yet he remains critical of his team’s late-game focus, emphasising the need for full-time concentration to secure wins.

We can do much better as a team. We have to stay focused for the full 90 minutes. If we can do that, we will win the games,” he added.

Victor Boniface’s determined to drive Leverkusen forward

Reflecting on the game, the 23-year-old acknowledged that such setbacks are part of football. However, he is eager to improve, pledging that he and his teammates will “fight back” in the coming weeks.

We are very annoyed that we didn’t win the game. We know: This is football, and games like this can happen. Our mentality is to fight back in the next few weeks,” the Nigerian concluded.

After scoring six goals in eight matches, Victor is keen to maintain his momentum, determined to stay injury-free and play a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s campaign this season.
