The game began with France pressing high, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead. In the eighth minute, Marie-Antoinette Katoto’s strike was ruled out for offside, but France wouldn’t be denied.
The breakthrough later came in the 29th minute when Katoto assisted Eugenie Le Sommer for the opening goal.
Just eight minutes later, Le Sommer turned provider again, this time setting up Amel Majri for France’s second goal.
The Nigerian side didn’t give up easily, with Ifeoma Onumonu scoring the team’s first-ever goal against France in added time of the first half, assisted by Monday Gift.
Though they had found the net, Nigeria couldn’t capitalise further, and France held firm in the second half to secure a narrow victory.
Despite the loss, Blessing Nkor expressed her gratitude on social media, acknowledging the honour of representing the Nigerian female national team.
“Appreciation Post! It’s a dream come true for me to play for my country in this capacity,” Nkor wrote, thanking God, her teammates, and the coaching staff. “To everyone who supports me, I love you from my heart.”
