Sadio Mane has been acquired by Bayern Munich from Liverpool in a move that could have cost up to €41 million (£35.2 million).

After Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last month, and at the conclusion of a season in which he scored 23 goals, Mane made hints that he wanted to leave the club.

Mane, 30, has been permitted to leave Anfield after six productive years due to Liverpool’s acquisition of striker Darwin Nunez in a rumoured £64 million (€ 75 million) move from Benfica last week and Nunez’s 12-month contract remaining.

With his help, Liverpool won their first Premier League title in 2020, advanced to three Champions League finals, where they won one of them, and won the EFL Cup and FA Cup in the 2021–22 campaign.

Mane joined Jurgen Klopp’s team from Southampton in 2016, and he scored 90 goals in 196 Premier League outings for Liverpool.

Only three players have scored more goals in the competition over that time: Harry Kane of Tottenham (134), Mohamed Salah of Leicester City (104), and Sadio Mane of Liverpool (118).

As well as winning both domestic cups during a brilliant final season with Liverpool, Mane featured for Senegal in AFCON and played a huge role to help the West African side the tournament.

At Liverpool, the Forward also had a fantastic relationship with fellow striker Salah, and his sale signals the end of an era for the Reds.

What Mane’s arrival implies for Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski’s future is uncertain as he has been extensively rumored with a switch to Barcelona.

I’ve worked very hard in my life to play for the biggest clubs in the world. When you play for Bayern, you know what you can expect.” – Sadio Mane said.

Lewandowski has claimed that his time at the club is “finished” and that he wants to leave before his contract expires in 2023, but Bayern president Herbert Hainer said earlier this month that he was “certain” Lewandowski will remain at the Allianz Arena.
