Bayer Leverkusen has congratulated Victor Boniface and the Super Eagles following their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
However, Boniface’s contribution in the crucial match against Benin left much to be desired, Footballrover reports.
The Bundesliga giants recognised the achievement, but the forward’s limited minutes on the pitch did not allow him to leave a significant mark.
Before the Super Eagles faced Benin, their AFCON qualification was already secured, thanks to Libya’s win over Rwanda.
Boniface’s limited impact in AFCON qualifier
However, the Eagles were still determined to finish atop their group. Benin took an early lead through Mohamed Tijani’s header, which caught Nigeria off guard.
The surprise goal set the tone for a tense match, with the Eagles struggling to break down their opponents.
Despite dominating possession, Nigeria’s attacking trio of Osimhen, Lookman, and Iheanacho were unable to find the back of the net.
It wasn’t until late in the game that the breakthrough came. Substitute Moses Simon delivered a perfect cross, which Victor Osimhen expertly headed home to level the score in the 81st minute.
That goal secured Nigeria’s place at AFCON 2025 as group winners, maintaining their unbeaten run in the qualifiers.
Victor came on in the second half for the Super Eagles, replacing Alex Iwobi.
Unfortunately, the Bayer Leverkusen forward struggled to make an impact in his brief 19-minute appearance.
He found it challenging to control the ball and failed to make meaningful contributions in attack, leaving fans expecting more from the highly-rated forward.
Despite his limited influence, Bayer Leverkusen extended their congratulations to their star boy and the Super Eagles for securing their spot in next year’s AFCON tournament.
“Congratulations to Super Eagles and Boniface on qualifying for AFCON 2025,” Leverkusen wrote on X.
