Italian Serie A side – Atalanta has officially confirmed the signing of a new star player, Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman from German top division team, RB Leipzig.

The Serie A club withheld information on the contract’s length and price, although rumours claim that the Nigerian international signed a four-year deal with the Gian Piero Gasperini side for a fee close to €15 million.

A statement from the club reads;

“Atalanta BC are delighted to announce the signing of the player Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig on a permanent basis. Born in Wandsworth on the 20th of October in 1997, he is a fast and skilful winger with the ability to drift past defenders, attack the depth and can cover different positions in the attack, he can play different positions offensively.”

The 24-year-old winger, who had a standout stint at Leicester City while on loan, will now continue his professional career in Italy.

Lookman made 42 appearances at the King Power Stadium last season, where he ended up scoring just eight goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the English League Cup, and the Uefa Europa League.

The winger moved to Leipzig in 2019 from Everton, but his failure to feature frequently for the Bundesliga team led to his transfer to Fulham and Leicester City.

The Atalanta new signing – Ademola Lookman played for the Red Bulls in 24 competitive games, scoring five goals and assisting on four more before the loan move to join Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Lookman is poised to make his debut against Valencia on Saturday in a preseason friendly.

On August 13 at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, Atalanta will kickoff their pursuit of a first Italian Serie A title against Sampdoria.

Recall that the former England youth international pledged his allegiance to Nigeria in 2022.

Later, on March 25, 2022, he made his Super Eagles debut when the Super Eagles tied Ghana at 0-0 in a rematch of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualification play-off.
