There were rumors that the 26-year-old submitted a transfer request this summer, and Manchester City was ready to sign him.

Due to their limited options for full-backs heading into this season—Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker—the Premier League Champions were initially predicted to sign the 24-year-old.

City later acknowledged that they have no plans to raise their £40 million offer, but he finally signed a six-year deal with the Blues till 2028.

On Monday, Contracts were being examined and exchanged in preparation for Chelsea to complete a £55M plus £7m in add-ons trade for Marc Cucurella from Brighton.

Later on Tuesday, Chelsea and Cucurella fully agreed on all personal terms, and the contract offer was finalized.

The instant both clubs agreed on the price, the defender had no choice but to accept and the deal will also have Levi Colwill join Brighton on loan until June 2023, no buy option.

Last season, Marc Cucurella created 40 chances for goals from open play in the Premier League. Of all Chelsea players, only Reece James (42) created more.

After acquiring the defender this summer, reports claim that Thomas Tuchel is thinking of utilizing Marc Cucurella as a center-back.

Football lovers has praised him for his performances this past season, but none more so than Brighton chairman Tony Bloom, who called him a phenomenal player.

Chelsea fans are already wondering where he will play given that the Blues also have Ben Chilwell available for the left-back position.

He would be joining a team that already has Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly, who would be ideal role models for him to learn from if there were any concerns about his ability to play at center back as well.

Even with the failures in the Jules Kounde affair last month, the Blues may be only one more center-back away from having a very successful window in terms of recruiting in the back.

Furthermore, securing the deal ahead of direct rivals Manchester City is a significant indicator of where the Blues stand in the present market, especially given their desire to this time around cut the gap on the top two.
