Nasarawa United captain and in-form striker, Anas Yusuf, has written his name into the history books of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after shattering a 7-year record in the league.
Anas became the first player to score two hat-tricks in a single NPFL season since Anthony Okpotu accomplished the feat for Lobi Stars during the 2016/17 season.
Yusuf’s brilliance was on full display as he led Nasarawa United to a triumphant return to form, securing a 3-0 victory against Abia Warriors on matchday seven, Footballrover reports.
The captain, who is now the NPFL’s leading scorer with eight goals, was unstoppable as he netted his second treble of the campaign, further sealing off his position atop the goal-scoring charts.
The 26-year-old opened the floodgates in the 56th minute before he quickly doubled his tally just two minutes later.
He completed his stunning hat-trick in the 70th minute, leaving Abia Warriors’ defence in disarray.
His remarkable performance not only earned Nasarawa a crucial win but also saw him crowned Man of the Match after the final whistle.
Yusuf promises more as Nasarawa United climb the NPFL ladder
In a post-match interview, Yusuf expressed his delight in helping his team secure a much-needed victory.
“I thank God who enabled me to score my second hat-trick of the season. I feel excited for this feat. I thank my teammates and coaches for the opportunity given to me to express myself on the field,” he said.
With his eyes set on further success, the Nasarawa captain vowed to maintain his current form and push his side toward a strong NPFL campaign.
“I will continue to work hard to help the team win games by scoring more goals going forward,” Anas added.
