Leicester City coach happy to see Ndidi in ‘safe place’: ‘He needed that release’

Leicester City coach happy to see Ndidi in 'safe place

Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi experienced no negative aftereffects following his challenging ordeal in Libya while on international duty with Nigeria.

The Nigerian squad was stranded for over 15 hours at Al Abraq Airport after their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier was cancelled, Footballrover reports.

During that time, the players and staff were without access to food, water, or phone service for more than half a day before returning to Nigeria on Monday night.

Despite the difficult experience, Cooper has come out to tell fans that Ndidi is physically and mentally well after returning to the club.

He noted that the team maintained regular communication with him during the ordeal, although Wi-Fi issues made contact difficult.

Cooper explained that Ndidi quickly resumed training upon his return and performed well, interpreting this as a positive sign of his recovery.

The club has closely monitored his physical and mental well-being, ensuring that he is fully prepared for upcoming matches.

He’s fine. He’s back with us, safe and well. We were in close contact with him throughout the situation they found themselves in. He kept us updated.

“There were Wi-Fi issues, so it wasn’t as often as we would have liked. He was back with us soon after and has trained. He’s in a safe place, and that includes the mental side of it too.

“He trained really well yesterday, which was pleasing to see. Maybe he needed that release. He’s fine. We’ve checked with him in every way we can. He’ll be ready like everybody else,” Cooper said.

Leicester City now turns its attention to their next clash with Southampton, confident that Ndidi is ready to contribute as they aim for consecutive victories following their pre-international break win over Bournemouth.
