Fulham’s 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday saw Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi find the back of the net at Goodison Park, only for his side to concede a late equaliser in the Premier League clash, leaving the star disappointed.
While netting a goal was satisfying for Iwobi, the Fulham midfielder expressed that the team’s focus remains on securing the full three points—something they’ve missed in recent matches, footballrover reports.
Iwobi’s goal in the 61st minute of the game appeared to have set Fulham on the path to victory.
However, Everton’s Beto found the net in stoppage time, levelling the score and dampening Fulham’s hopes for a hard-fought win.
Reflecting on the match, Iwobi described the experience as “bittersweet,” pointing out that Fulham must learn from their mistakes, as this wasn’t the first time a lead had slipped through their fingers—citing a similar scenario against West Ham.
“It’s always nice to get a goal, but the main thing, whether I score or not, is to get the three points,” Iwobi said after the game.
“It’s a bit of a bittersweet moment, but we have to learn from our mistakes. It happened before against West Ham. We’re kind of disappointed, but we’ll look at the positives to go into the Brentford game.
“It’s almost like a loss; everyone’s not too happy, but the manager says we should be proud of the performance and try not to stay down, so we’ll look at the positives and go again,” the Nigerian star said.
Alex Iwobi reflects on Fulham’s late draw woes
Despite the disappointment, Iwobi highlighted a few positives as they prepare to face Brentford.
He credited teammate Emile Smith Rowe for setting up his goal, praising Rowe’s ability to advance with the ball and create opportunities.
The draw leaves Fulham in 10th place, with two losses and one draw in their last three matches.
As they prepare for the next challenge, Iwobi and the Cottagers hope to reverse their fortunes and climb higher in the Premier League standings.
