Akanni Elijah of Enyimba is hopeful the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, would favor him and his teammates as the second stanza of the competition gets underway later today.

After nine games, the league took a month off, and this weekend, hostilities will resume in a number of match venues across the nation.

Akanni Elijah, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, has been crucial to the former African Champions’ effort to win the NPFL23 championship this year.

The talented midfielder has been playing well for the Peoples elephant, contributing to two goals in nine games this season for Enyimba.

The midfielder scored two goals for Enyimba this season—the first against Nasarawa United in their season opener and the second against Gombe United on the road.

The ex-star of Mountain of Fire took to his Twitter page to say;

With 16 points, Enyimba is in second place in the NPFL Group A standings courtesy of Akanni Elijah’s outstanding performance thus far.

After barely losing the first leg against the Group A leaders, Bendel Insurance, the Enyimba star and his teammates will be seeking to start the NFPL second stanza with a win over the Benin Arsenals.

Meanwhile, the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL has encouraged the league’s teams to maintain the highest possible standard.

The committee’s chairman, Gbenga Elegbeye, praised the clubs for their efforts in the opening stanza and gave them instructions to do better in the league’s remaining games.
