After abandoning their match against Naija Ratels FC in the 78th minute of the Nigeria Women Premier League, it now appears that the Royal Queens of Warri will be required to pay the sum of one million naira.
The match official reports for the Match No. 57 between Naija Ratels FC and Royal Queens FC, played on March 22, 2023, at Old Parade Ground Pitch in Abuja, have been received by the NWFLPremiership.
Footballrover understands that the aforementioned game was abandoned by Royal Queens FC as a result of the center referee handing a penalty kick decision against Royal Queens FC in the 78th minute of play.
This move by Royal Queens, in the opinion of the women’s league management, violated the following article:
“Article 14.8 states that any club that refuses to continue with a game for a period up to five (5) minutes in a match or till the expiration of full time of either half of the game or walks off the pitch in any form of protest against a decision of the referee or otherwise shall be liable to a fine of up to N1,000, 000 (One Million Naira only); In addition, the club shall forfeit the match to it’s opponent by 3 points, 3 goals.”
As a result, Royal Queens have been fined one million naira (N1,000, 000) for disrupting the game and leaving the above-mentioned match in the 78th minute of play.
Also, Mr. Atare Azigbo, the general manager of the Royal Queens, has been immediately barred from participating in any NWFL events till the end of the current campaign due to disruptive behavior.
Meanwhile, the latest standings of the NWFL23 log following Wednesday’s Matchday 10 matches and the verdict of the NWFL’s pertaining Naija Ratels vs. Royal Queens case leave the Warri Ladies with just 8 points and in the second-to-last position in Group A of the abridged league.
After Royal Queens left the game in the 78th minute of play, the match result was awarded to Naija Ratels by 3 points and 3 goals in accordance with Article 14.8 of the NWFL Regulations Book.
