Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman continued his brilliant form in Serie A, firing home his 15th Serie A goal of the season to lead Atalanta to a crucial 2-1 victory over Roma on Monday night at the Gewiss Stadium.
The Nigerian winger, fresh off scoring in the 4-0 demolition of Monza, struck again—this time just nine minutes into the match—proving instrumental in securing Atalanta’s spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, Footballrover reports.
Ademola Lookman’s fast start sets the tempo
Having passed a late fitness test, Lookman wasted no time showing why he remains one of Atalanta’s most dangerous attackers.
A clever pass from Charles De Ketelaere found him inside the box, and his precise first-time finish nestled perfectly into the bottom right corner.
The strike added to his season tally of 26 goal contributions (15 goals and 11 assists) across 40 appearances.
His sharpness in front of goal has been a key factor in Atalanta’s strong finish to the season.
Although Roma briefly equalised in the 32nd minute through Bryan Cristante, Atalanta regained control late in the second half.
Ibrahim Sulemana’s powerful long-range effort in the 76th minute sealed the win, much to the delight of the home fans.
Champions League secured, thanks to Lookman’s brilliance
The Nigerian international played 88 minutes before being substituted for Marco Brescianini.
His early goal not only energised his teammates but also ensured that Atalanta remained in third place with 71 points and two matches left to play.
While the Serie A title may be out of reach, Atalanta’s confirmed qualification for the Champions League is a major victory.
