Atalanta’s rise to the top of Serie A is closely tied to the performances of one standout player: Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman.
Once overlooked by Leipzig, Lookman’s transformation into one of Europe’s best has caught the attention of Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has praised his incredible growth, Footballrover reports.
But what’s behind Lookman’s journey to being rated among the world’s best?
Super Eagles star’s remarkable rise at Atalanta
Ademola Lookman’s story has been so inspiring. Recruited by Atalanta for just €9.35 million two years ago, the 27-year-old forward has since skyrocketed in value, now standing at €55 million according to Transfermarkt.
His on-field contributions speak volumes: 44 goals and 23 assists in 98 appearances for Atalanta.
Last season, a brilliant hat trick in the UEFA Europa League was the highlight of his performances for the team.
Gasperini labels Lookman ‘a top player’ among the world’s best
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has played a crucial role in Lookman’s development, and his recent praise further placed the Super Eagles star among Europe’s elite.
Gasperini acknowledged Lookman’s consistency, adding that while some players exhibit more stable character, Lookman’s ability to shine in challenging circumstances has made him a top player.
Lookman’s consistency, particularly in his fitness and role for the team, has obviously been key to his rise.
However, the Atalanta boss believes Lookman is now “extraordinary,” with his talent placing him among the world’s best players.
“He’s [Lookman] a top player. In terms of character, there are perhaps players who have more continuity and are more solid, but that’s normal,” Gasperini said, per Sosfanta.
“Even his role is difficult. He always has to be very fit, but he has become a truly extraordinary player, among the best in Europe and the world. Because he has improved his consistency, in some ways he has started to be an important Atalanta player”.
Super Eagles star eyes Serie A glory
Lookman’s 12 goals and 5 assists in 19 games this season underscore his importance to Atalanta, who sit atop Serie A.
With his impressive performances and growing reputation, Lookman is determined to help secure Atalanta’s first-ever Serie A title, proving once again why he’s regarded as one of the world’s best
