The 28-year-old Super Eagles star, however, refused to let the mistake define his performance.

In the dying moments of the game, he rose above the Lorient defense to powerfully head in the equaliser, marking his first Ligue 1 goal in 13 appearances this season.

His late intervention kept Nantes in 15th place, level on 11 points with Lorient, who sit 16th, highlighting how vital the point was in the fight to avoid relegation.

Beyond Ligue 1, Awaziem’s form has also been notable for the Super Eagles.

The defender recently featured in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs in Morocco, coming off the bench in both matches against Gabon and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Recall that he contributed directly with an assist for Victor Osimhen’s fourth goal in the 4-1 win over Gabon.
