Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma has admitted that managing his new-look squad is proving a challenge but insists the team is fully prepared for their NPFL matchday 5 showdown with Bendel Insurance.
The clash at the weekend carries added weight for both sides, who share a fierce traditional rivalry that stretches back decades, Footballrover reports.
Stanley Eguma Confident Despite Squad Challenges
For Enyimba, it’s about momentum, consistency, and proving their squad rebuild is on track. For Insurance, it’s another chance to frustrate the nine-time league champions.
Speaking to the team media ahead of the game, Eguma highlighted the difficulty of bedding in several new signings while keeping results on track.
— “I think we are ready for tomorrow’s game (Sunday); it’s a big match. Enyimba FC and Insurance are both traditional teams that have represented Nigeria well.
“So far, we are trying to consolidate our position on the log. You know it’s not easy getting to the top spot; every team is trying to work on their team and get that stabilisation.
“Because we have a lot of new players joining this season, it becomes a little bit difficult, but for tomorrow’s game we are ready, and the boys are in high spirits.”
The People’s Elephant have already shown flashes of strength this season, but consistency will be the real test.
Enyimba vs Insurance: A Rivalry of Fine Margins
Recent history gives Bendel Insurance confidence heading into the encounter. In their last nine NPFL meetings, the Aba Elephant have managed just one win, while Insurance claimed two victories and six matches ended in draws.
But Eguma believes his side’s improved mentality can tilt the balance this time.
— “After posting a good outing in Yenagoa, we are optimistic about getting the job done tomorrow (Sunday), and we need over one hundred per cent concentration to achieve it,” he said.
While focused on insurance, Eguma also turned his attention to Nigerian clubs competing on the continental stage this weekend.
He wished Abia Warriors, Akwa United, Rivers United, and Remo Stars success, expressing particular confidence in Abia Warriors under coach Imama Amapakabo.
Eguma pointed to Enyimba’s own run in Africa last season as proof that Nigerian clubs can go deep into continental tournaments if they remain disciplined and well-prepared.
