Malachi Ohawume grabbed two late goals to make sure Rivers United maintained their lead at the top of Nigeria Professional Football League standings with a stunning come back win in Uyo against Dakkada FC.
On Saturday, the Rivers Boys snatched a late 3-2 victory over Dakkada FC and claimed all three points in their matchday 30 match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Coach Stanley Eguma made three changes to the lineup that faced Remo Stars in their previous match.
Darlingtin Ovunda, Denis Ndasi, and Nelson Esor all came on to replace Sochima Victor, Fabian Nworie, and Chiamaka Madu.
The Pride of Rivers got off to a fast start and grabbed the lead just 20 minutes into the game.
With his 11th goal of the season, Chijioke Akuneto completed a counterattack started by Nelson Esor to give the Stanley Eguma side the lead.
The lead, however, was short-lived, as Dakkada FC fought their way back into the game six minutes later. Edidiong Ezekiel scored a spectacular header to bring the hosts back into the game.
Rivers United almost took the lead again in 36th minute when Nelson Esor tried his magic in the box, but his cross for Akuneto’s head was easily blocked for a corner kick that resulted in nothing.
After a 1-1 draw at halftime, Rivers United fell behind two minutes into the second half as their backline was caught sleeping for the second time, leaving Edidiong Ezekiel with no choice but to grab his brace for the hosts.
And just when you think the game is over, Malachi Ohawume pulls off a spectacular cycle kick that finds the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
Danlandi Umar, the coach of Dakkada FC, was shown the red card a few seconds later.
Malachi Ohawume stunned the home side once more in the 90th minute, when he doubled his tally to put United ahead and seal all three points.
