Despite notching his third assist of the season, the 28-year-old forward’s efforts were eclipsed as Odion Ighalo’s Al-Wehda clinched a narrow 2-1 win in a crucial relegation battle at the Prince Hathloul bin Abdulaziz Sports City, Footballrover reports.

Saviour Godwin’s brilliance undone by late twist

Godwin had a hand in the game’s opening goal, linking up with teammate Pato to fire Al Akhdoud into the lead shortly after the break.

But the joy was fleeting. Just five minutes later, Al-Wehda struck back through Mohamed Al Makaazi, restoring parity and shifting momentum.

With the match finely poised, Saviour Godwin continued to pose a threat despite seeing limited action on the ball.

In fact, he recorded the fewest touches (24) among all outfield players who played the full 90 minutes.

Still, his creative spark has now delivered nine goal contributions this season—six goals and three assists—including two goals and two assists in his last five outings.

His direct counterpart, Odion Ighalo, may not have found the net, but the veteran striker played a key role for 65 minutes before making way for Yahya Naji.

The former Manchester United man has now gone five games without a goal but registered one assist during that span.

The night ultimately belonged to Odion Ighalo, as Al-Wehda found the match-winner in the 75th minute.

A well-crafted move involving Abdulaziz Noor and Alexandru Cretu sliced open the Al Akhdoud defence, sealing all three points and giving Al-Wehda a lifeline in the relegation scrap.

With just three matches left in the season, Al-Wehda sit 16th with 29 points, clinging to faint survival hopes.

Al Akhdoud, meanwhile, remain just one point behind, locked in their own desperate fight to avoid the drop as well.
