Super Eagles rising star Tolu Arokodare continued his sensational form in the Belgian Pro League on Wednesday night, striking once again to keep Genk’s title hopes alive.
The Nigerian forward was the hero of the night as his second-half equaliser salvaged a vital point in a 1-1 draw away to Royal Antwerp in the Championship Playoffs, Footballrover reports.
The 24-year-old’s crucial finish in the 71st minute continues to increase his scoring ratio of the season—an impressive tally that shows why he’s one of the most clinical finishers in Europe this season.
Tolu Arokodare hits back as Genk fight for title
With Genk trailing after Michel Ange Balikwisha put the hosts ahead in the 61st minute, it was Tolu Arokodare who stepped up and delivered when it mattered most.
His sharp instinct and precise finish brought the game level and shifted momentum back to the visitors.
Just moments before Arokodare’s equaliser, Royal Antwerp missed a golden opportunity to double their lead, with Tjaronn Chery failing to convert a penalty in the 69th minute—a turning point that gave Genk the lifeline they desperately needed.
Arokodare played 89 minutes before being substituted for Hyun-Gyu Oh, but his impact had already sealed the headlines.
20th league goal highlights Arokodare’s blistering season
Now with 20 league goals to his name, Tolu Arokodare has racked up 27 goal contributions in 40 appearances across all competitions—22 goals and 5 assists.
His consistency has been a rare bright spot for a Genk side that has struggled in the playoffs.
Tolu is still the leading scorer in the Jupiler Pro League this season.
His impressive form has attracted interest from Bayern Munich, who are reportedly eyeing him as a possible backup option for Harry Kane, following a season that exposed their lack of attacking depth.
Wednesday’s draw follows back-to-back defeats—1-0 to Club Brugge and 2-1 to Union St Gilloise—leaving Genk a single point behind leaders Brugge, who face Union later today in a potentially decisive clash.
Elsewhere, Gent’s woes continued as they crumbled to a heavy 5-0 loss against Anderlecht in the other playoff fixture.
Genk now turn their attention to the return leg against Royal Antwerp on Sunday, hoping Tolu Arokodare can once again lead the charge in their quest for Belgian glory.
