Sevilla extended their unbeaten La Liga away streak to five matches with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, thanks to Super Eagles star Chidera Ejuke.
The hero of the night? The Nigerian forward, whose brilliance sealed a crucial three points as Sevilla win Real Sociedad, Footballrover reports.
Sociedad, fielding a heavily rotated squad after their Europa League clash with Manchester United, struggled to find a breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Sevilla capitalised on their moment of magic early in the second half to climb above their opponents into 10th place.
Chidera Ejuke breaks the deadlock in style
Despite a cagey first half, the game opened up after the break.
Sevilla captain Saúl dispossessed Nayef Aguerd, played a quick one-two with Isaac Romero, and found Chidera Ejuke in a dangerous position.
The Nigerian forward showed his class, using Jon Aramburu as a decoy before curling a precise strike into the bottom corner past Unai Marrero.
The goal silenced the home crowd and left Sociedad scrambling for a response.
With their lead intact, Sevilla nearly doubled the advantage when Dodi Lukébakio set up Romero, whose shot struck the post.
Sociedad, on the other hand, struggled to create clear-cut chances despite making four substitutions in one go—a desperate attempt to change the momentum.
Sevilla hold firm as sociedad falter
Real Sociedad’s frustration grew as their attacking reshuffle failed to trouble Sevilla’s disciplined backline.
Sergio Gómez’s switch to the right flank didn’t provide the spark needed, and their best efforts lacked precision.
A late moment of tension saw Saúl’s header accidentally hit teammate Albert Sambi Lokonga, but Sevilla remained composed to secure all three points.
Now, with momentum on their side, they prepare to host Athletic Club, while Sociedad must regroup after another toothless attacking display.
