Atalanta delivered a statement victory at the Allianz Stadium, stunning Juventus with a dominant 4-0 win with Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman part of the goalscorers.
Ademola Lookman sealed the rout in style, ensuring his side became the first team this season to defeat the Bianconeri on home turf, Footballrover reports.
The Nigerian forward also reached a personal milestone, continuing his red-hot form in Serie A.
Atalanta thrash Juventus as Ademola Lookman shines
From the start, both teams showed attacking intent, but it was Atalanta who took control.
Lookman came close early on, forcing a block from Khéphren Thuram, before Weston McKennie’s handball gifted Atalanta a penalty.
Mateo Retegui converted from the spot to give La Dea the lead.
Just seconds into the second half, Atalanta struck again. Michele Di Gregorio denied Lookman, but Marten de Roon pounced on the rebound to double the advantage.
Juventus, desperate for a response, made multiple changes but struggled to break through a resolute Atalanta defence.
Sead Kolašinac and Davide Zappacosta combined brilliantly in the 66th minute, with Zappacosta finishing off a slick move to make it 3-0.
Juventus’ misery was compounded late on when Dušan Vlahović’s slip gifted Lookman the chance to fire home Atalanta’s fourth.
Lookman’s milestone and Atalanta’s statement
Lookman’s goal marked his 50th for Atalanta, adding to his 21 assists in 109 appearances.
The reigning African Player of the Year has now scored 13 Serie A goals this season, surpassing last year’s tally of 11.
With this win, Atalanta extended their unbeaten run to seven league games, moving within three points of leaders Inter Milan while pulling six points ahead of Juventus.
La Dea’s emphatic display at the Allianz Stadium sends a clear message to the title challengers.
