Sparta Praha has made headlines with the acquisition of 21-year-old Nigerian defender Uchenna Emmanuel Aririerisim, a former Ikorodu City FC star.
The move, completed during the winter transfer window, marks a significant step for the young defender under the influence of Tomáš Rosický, the club’s sports director and Arsenal legend, Footballrover reports.
A record-breaking transfer to Sparta Praha
Emmanuel Aririerisim’s transfer from Baník Ostrava to Sparta Praha comes with a record-breaking fee for the Czech Chance Liga side.
This signing also highlights Sparta’s strategic focus on young, high-potential talent, as confirmed by Rosický, who described Emmanuel as a “talented player with excellent potential for growth.”
“I am very happy to welcome Emmanuel to Sparta. There was a lot of interest in his services from other clubs, but he chose us because he sees the best space for his further development in our environment,” Tomáš Rosický said.
Born on December 4, 2003, in Nigeria, Emmanuel completed his youth development with Ikorodu City, a Lagos-based NPFL club known for nurturing promising talent.
His journey to Europe began in early 2023 when he joined Baník Ostrava. Within months, he established himself as a key figure in their defence, making his league debut in a 1-0 victory against Jablonec.
Emmanuel’s rapid rise and notable contributions
Emmanuel’s breakout season saw him excel in Baník’s defensive trio, contributing not only with strong defensive performances but also offensively.
He scored his first league goal in a close win over Hradec Králové and provided a crucial assist in a match against Dukla.
His ability to adapt and deliver in various roles on the pitch has made him an invaluable asset.
As Sparta Praha’s first signing of the winter window, Emmanuel is expected to fill the void left by Martin Vitík, who has attracted interest from top Italian clubs like Napoli and Fiorentina.
A promising future with Sparta Praha
In his first statement as a Sparta player, Emmanuel expressed gratitude and confidence in his decision, emphasising his commitment to contributing to the team’s success.
“Going to Sparta is the best possible decision; I have no doubts at all. As soon as my agent told me about the club’s interest, I didn’t hesitate. I always try to do my best and help the team. My faith in God also drives me in my career,* Emmanuel said.
Under Tomáš Rosický’s leadership, Emmanuel’s development is expected to accelerate.
Rosický’s ability to spot and nurture talent has already positioned Sparta Praha as a key destination for rising stars.
