Bendel Insurance has labelled their 3-0 defeat to Ikorodu City in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) as a shocking and humbling experience.
The Lagos City side handed their visitors their second loss of the season after they managed to gather three draws and one victory, Footballrover reports.
The result marks their biggest defeat since 2008, when they fell by the same scoreline to Heartland FC.
In the matchday six clash, Rivo Ayemwenre, Kelechi Onwe, and Ajeyigbe Toyeeb netted the goals for Ikorodu City.
The Saturday’s match saw the Benin Gunners, who had entered the fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw with the El-Kanemi Warriors, hopeful of returning to winning ways.
However, the City boys had other plans. Rivo opened the scoring early on with a header after a dazzling run and assist from team captain Waliu.
Kelechi doubled the lead with a clinical header, seizing on a well-placed long throw from Tosin.
Finally, Ajeyigbe sealed the win with a powerful strike in the 73rd minute, sending the ball flying into the top corner.

“We suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat at Ikorodu City,” the club stated. “We apologise to our fans; we shift attention to hosting Bayelsa United in mid-week schedules.”
