The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Doma United FC of Gombe State ₦2 million for breaching league regulations during their recent away clash against Enyimba in Aba.
The first part of the fine, amounting to ₦1 million, was imposed due to misconduct that could tarnish the image of the game, Footballrover reports.
Doma United was penalised another ₦1 million for overall misconduct and failing to control the behaviour of their players and officials.
The club has been granted a 48-hour window to contest the decision.
Meanwhile, Enyimba FC, the reigning NPFL champions, faces a hefty ₦7 million fine for their conduct during the same fixture.
They were found guilty of failing to provide adequate security at their home ground, leading to unauthorised persons invading the pitch, and will have to pay ₦1 million.
For fans and any unauthorised individuals invading the pitch, Enyimba will also have to pay an additional ₦1 million.
The Aba-based side is compelled to pay an extra ₦5 million for the disruption of live broadcast coverage of the match.
As a consequence of these penalties, Enyimba Stadium will be off-limits to fans for the next three home games.
Like Doma United, Enyimba has been given a 48-hour grace period to appeal the verdict.
This disciplinary action clearly demonstrates the NPFL’s dedication to maintaining the professionalism and integrity of Nigerian football while guaranteeing the safety and security of all parties involved.
