After months of transfer whispers, Nigerian winger Wisdom Fernando will finally be bidding farewell to Akwa United, his boyhood club, and will lace up for Sporting Lagos.
Sporting Lagos has concluded a deal to sign winger Wisdom Fernando from the Uyo-based side, Footballrover reports
Footballrover understands that the deal, sealed just as the transfer window reopened, will see the 21-year-old speedster join the noisy Lagosians, but his official debut will wait until February due to paperwork finalisation.
Fernando’s departure wasn’t without drama. Pre-season buzz saw him courted by both Rivers United and clubs abroad, tempting him with a potential escape from Uyo.
However, Akwa United sweetened the deal, and Fernando agreed to stay put.
Unfortunately, the allure of Sporting Lagos proved irresistible, and Fernando has finally decided to embark on a new chapter in his promising career.
His four-year spell with the Promise Keepers boasts an impressive trophy haul—all Nigerian domestic titles—and over 66 appearances.
Fernando played a key role in the club’s 2020–21 championship victory, with his electrifying pace and dribbling skills on the flanks.
Sporting Lagos fans can now expect an exciting injection of youthful dynamism into their attack as they look to revive their campaign that has left them struggling with relegation.
