In a thrilling UEFA Europa League showdown, the coach of Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini, has showered praise on the exceptional performance of Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman against Sporting Lisbon.

The Serie A outfit triumphed over Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon in a thrilling match at the Estádio José Alvalade, securing a 2-1 victory.

This Group D clash saw Atalanta taking an early lead with Giorgio Scalvini and Matteo Ruggeri, both products of the club’s academy, showcasing their prowess with remarkable goals.

While Sporting Lisbon managed to pull one back from the penalty spot, Lookman’s performance stole the spotlight, as he continually posed a threat to the opposition’s defense.

Gasperini, an experienced tactician, couldn’t contain his admiration for Lookman’s prowess.

While speaking to Skysports, he stated that Lookman had perhaps his best performance of the season and also one of the best for Atalanta.

He acknowledged that the Nigerian international created many dangerous situations and he’s really improving, but doesn’t know if he will be able to replicate last year’s goal tally.

With this win, Atalanta now leads their group with a perfect record of six points from two games.

Sporting and Sturm Graz follow with three points each, while Poland’s Rakow, the reigning champions, are still chasing their first points and goals.

Looking forward, Ademola Lookman aims to maintain his exceptional form when Atalanta faces Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in their Serie A Round 8 clash on Sunday.
