Former Nigeria Flying Eagles star Yira Sor has faced yet another injury setback, as confirmed by KRC Genk’s head coach, Thorsten Fink.
The talented winger, described as a player with ‘engine of Ferrari’ suffered an injury during Genk’s recent victory over KAA Gent and will be sidelined for this weekend’s Belgian Pro League match against Royal Antwerp.
Fortunately, a medical scan revealed that Sor has not sustained major damage to his abdominal muscles or adductors, Footballrover reports.
However, given his explosive playing style, the 24-year-old will undergo a specialised training program to strengthen his body before making his return.
Yira Sor injury update: Aiming for a stronger comeback
Sor is expected to be back on the pitch for Genk’s match against Sporting Charleroi on November 23.
As reported by Het Belang van Limburg, Gent coach Thorsten Fink stated that,
“Yira Sor will still be missing on Sunday. A scan showed that he did not suffer major damage in the area of the abdominal muscles and adductor muscles.
However, the Nigerian is so explosive that his body must be strengthened to tolerate everything.
He has the engine of a Ferrari, but the bodywork needs to be more solid, Fink smiled.
Sor will be trained through a specific program; he may be available again for the home match against Charleroi after the short international break on November 23.”
This setback comes shortly after Sor’s return to action last weekend, where he played just 10 minutes as a substitute before sustaining a pubic bone injury.
Having already missed 16 games due to previous groin and muscle injuries, this latest setback raises concerns about his fitness and continuity in the squad.
