Italian Serie A side Lazio is at a crossroads regarding the future of talented Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
The 23-year-old has impressed during his loan spell from Hatayspor, sparking calls from former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo for the Italian club to make his move permanent, Footballrover reports.
But with the transfer window approaching, time is running out to secure his signature.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s impact at Lazio
Since joining the Serie A side on loan, Dele-Bashiru has contributed four goals and two assists in 13 appearances, including a composed strike in their recent 1-1 draw with league leaders Atalanta.
While his UEFA Europa League performances have been solid, the Manchester City Academy graduate has struggled to adapt fully to Serie A’s tactical demands, earning just 432 minutes of league action so far.
Despite these challenges, Taiwo, who briefly played in Serie A with AC Milan, believes Dele-Bashiru’s potential is a valuable investment.
He describes the midfielder as a “worthy buy,” emphasising that his growth at the Italian side could benefit all parties involved, including his parent club, Hatayspor.
The loan agreement includes an option for Lazio to sign the Nigerian international permanently for €4 million, a decision that could elevate both the player and the club.
Why Lazio should act now
Taye Taiwo has urged the Eagles to prioritise signing Fisayo permanently, pointing out the club’s prestigious stature and the young midfielder’s promising start.
“Instead, I would prefer him to sign for Lazio, because the scene is much more prestigious. He has already proved his worth since his arrival, with five-goal contributions in 13 games for a midfielder. This represents a great opportunity for Dele-Bashiru, Lazio, and Hatayspor,” the ex-Super Eagles star said as quoted by Africa Foot.
Le Aquile, currently sitting fourth in Serie A, are just six points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Inter Milan.
A player of Dele-Bashiru’s calibre could be instrumental in helping the team maintain its competitive edge.
With his proven contributions and potential for further development, the opportunity to sign the Nigerian represents a strategic move Lazio cannot afford to miss.
