Victor Olatunji’s brace on Wednesday evening was all his team, AC Sparta Praha, needed to secure a crucial away victory against their bitter rivals, Slavia Prague, in the Czech Cup quarterfinal clash.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward put out a man-of-the-match performance in the second period of the game, lifting his team to success at the Eden Arena, Footballrover reports.
Olatunji’s double strike spearheaded Sparta Prague’s remarkable comeback from a two-goal deficit against Slavia Prague, propelling them into the next stage of the Czech Cup.
Despite facing adversity, including a red card for teammate Jaroslav Zeleny, Olatunji’s resilience and skill guided his team to success.
The match’s turning point came when Ivan Schranz and El Hadji Malick Diouf netted for Slavia Prague, giving them a commanding 2-0 lead.
However, Olatunji swiftly shifted the momentum with a goal just eight minutes into the second half, igniting Sparta Prague’s resurgence.
He then levelled the score at 2-2 in the 70th minute, forcing the game into extra time.
In a nail-biting additional moment, Sparta Praha clinched victory in the 114th minute when Adam Karabec converted a penalty.
Despite Slavia Prague’s dominance in possession and goal attempts, it was Sparta Praha who emerged victorious, thanks to Olatunji’s stellar performance.
Olatunji’s brilliance overshadowed the contributions of fellow Nigerians Igoh Ogbu and Muhamed Tijani, who featured for Slavia Prague.
With all eyes now on the upcoming league fixture between the two teams, Olatunji and his teammates aim to maintain their top position in the Czech First League as they host Slavia Praha at the epet ARENA.
