Nigerian defender Samuel Isife has sealed a long-term move to Slavia Prague, one of the biggest clubs in the Czech Republic.
The 21-year-old, who has impressed at Dukla, will officially join Slavia in January after completing the autumn part of the season with his current side, Footballrover reports.
Slavia Prague confirm contract for Samuel Isife
By the end of 2029, he is expected to wear the Slavia red at Eden Arena full-time.
“The Nigerian will spend the autumn part of the season at Dukla. He signed a contract in Eden until 31st December 2029,” the club announced.
Isife’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. At Dukla, he featured in seven league matches and delivered two assists, building a reputation as one of the most dependable full-backs in the Czech second division.
His performances quickly caught the eye of Slavia Sporting Director Jiri Bilek.
– “A young player with great potential. He has excellent running skills and great parameters. We believe he can challenge the competition on the right side of the defence,” said Bilek.
He added, “We already knew about him during his time in Vlašim; he definitely won us over with his performances for Dukla. The final arrival will take place in the winter; he will remain at Juliska until the end of the autumn.”
Samuel Isife eager for Slavia Praha challenge
Looking ahead, Isife could not hide his excitement about the chance to play for the reigning champions.
— “I am excited to play for one of the biggest teams in the country. I can’t wait to run in this beautiful stadium and leave my mark on it,” he told the club’s official website.
For the Nigerian, the pace of his career has been astonishing. In less than a year in the Czech Republic, he has risen from the second league to the champions of the First League.
— “Honestly, it shocks me a little myself. I believe in my abilities, my talent and the direction I have set for myself. To be simply the best. Keep working and listening to the coaches; it helped me a lot everywhere I went.”
The right-back also emphasised his commitment to learning from his teammates, stressing that they have already experienced something at the club and they have the experience that will be valuable to me.
From Dukla to Eden Arena: a meteoric rise
Samuel Isife described his rise as “unreal”, giving thanks both to God and to his own persistence for making the dream of joining Slavia Praha possible.
On meeting fellow Nigerians Igoh Ogbu and David Moses in the squad, Samuel Isife added:
— “I met David once; we talked. But we will be on the field as teammates for the first time; I am really looking forward to working together. I’m sure they’ll teach me a lot.”
