Despite the victory, Ilechukwu refrained from jubilation, citing a cautious approach grounded in his assessment that his team is not yet a contender for the title, Footballrover reports.

Aiming to forge a resilient squad capable of competing for and clinching championships in the foreseeable future, the former Plateau United coach emphasised the importance of gradual progress and development.

The Flying Antelopes moved up to third place in the Nigeria Premier Football League standings following their narrow victory over Remo Stars on Wednesday, courtesy of Agu Kenechukwu’s lone goal, which secured a 1-0 win and three vital points.

In a post-match interview, Ilechukwu urged against dismissing his team’s prospects in the title race, asserting that the league remains wide open for any team to emerge victorious.

We will keep fighting till the end of the season,” he affirmed.

Explaining his decision not to overly celebrate the significant win against the Remo Stars, the coach expressed concern about maintaining his team’s focus and avoiding undue pressure.

“I don’t want my boys to lose concentration. We are not 100% sure of winning the league,” he cautioned.

Referencing Heartland’s recent 5-1 home defeat to Plateau United, Ilechukwu explained the unpredictable nature of the league and reiterated his team’s determination to persevere until the final whistle of the season.

While acknowledging that Enugu Rangers may not presently be frontrunners for the league title, the coach emphasised their resilience and refusal to be discounted.

He outlined their strategic objective of nurturing a competitive squad capable of sustained success, expressing confidence in their path towards achieving that goal.

Next up for the coal city side is a clash against the Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna on Sunday, where they aim to build on their recent momentum and continue their pursuit of excellence on the pitch.
