Super Falcons prospect Taiwo Lawal delivered another impressive performance on Thursday morning, finding the back of the net once again, although it was not enough to secure all three points for Mazatlán FC in their Liga MX Femenil Clausura clash against Atlas.

Lawal opened the scoring in the encounter, but her side were unable to protect their narrow lead, conceding late in the game and ultimately settling for a 1–1 draw, Footballrover reports.

The 23-year-old has now scored three goals this season, following her brace in Mazatlán’s 3–2 victory over FC Juárez in their opening match of the campaign.

Mazatlán FC Women were left with a bittersweet feeling on matchday four as a late strike from Atlas Women forced the draw in an entertaining encounter.

The home side started brightly and were rewarded early. Their pressure paid off in the 14th minute when Taiwo Lawal found the net, finishing confidently to give the hosts a deserved lead.

The goal sparked belief as Mazatlán, who looked organised and disciplined in both phases of play, took the slim lead heading into the first-half break.

Atlas, however, grew into the game as the second half progressed. The visitors pushed higher up the field in the second half, increasing tempo and committing more players forward in search of an equaliser.

Late Atlas response denies Lawal winning moment

Mazatlán defended resolutely for long periods, appearing on course for a valuable home victory.

But as the clock ticked into the final minutes, sustained Atlas pressure finally told.

In the 86th minute, Vanessa Penuna struck to bring the away team level, silencing the home crowd and dramatically shifting the momentum of the contest.

The late goal proved decisive, with little time remaining for either side to find a winner. Both teams ultimately settled for a point.

After suffering a disappointing 3–0 defeat to Pumas in their previous outing, Mazatlán were eager to bounce back to winning ways but were unable to do so.

The draw sees Lawal and her teammates slip to 10th place with just seven points, while the visitors—still without a win this season—remain 15th with only one point.
