It was heartwarming to see the team recover from the earlier successive losses against the United States of America, Japan, and Canada with only a one-nil face-saving victory against Costa Rica.
The Super Falcons Coach, Randy Waldrum, prosecuted the two international friendlies with almost the same squad, signifying his readiness for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July.
Coach Waldrum’s team for the two international friendlies included veteran goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, Captain Onome-Ebi, Mitchell Alozie, Jennifer Onyi Echegini, Demehin Oluwatosin Blessing, Rofiat Adenike Imuran, Rasheedat Ajibade, Toni Payne, Halimatu Ayinde, Asiasat Oshoala, Esther Okoronkwo, and Desire Oparanozie.
Goalkeepers Yewande Balogun, Inyene Etim, Uchenna Kanu, Glory Ogbonna, Ashleigh Plumptre, Christy Ucheibe, Vivian Ikechukwu, Regina Otu, Ngozi Okobi-Okeogbene, Monday Gift, and Deborah Ajibola Aboidun were unused substitutes.
The coach left out usual regulars like Rita Chikwelu, Francisca Ordega, Ifeoma Onumonu, Chinwendu Ihezuo, goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, Maureen Madu, and defender Osinachi Ohale.
The Falcons are pitted in Group B with Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
Based on their performances in the two international friendlies, Desire Oparanozie and sensational strikers Jennifer Echegini and Esther Okoronkwo will be hoping to make coach Randy Waldrumâs final squad for the 2023 FIFA Womenâs World Cup.
