Super Falcons’ defender, Ebi Onome, marked her return to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) with an impactful assist for her new team, the Naija Ratels, despite their tough 3-1 loss against the Nasarawa Amazons.
The 40-year-old defender made her presence felt in the second half of the match, contributing an assist. However, her efforts couldn’t prevent her team from facing a defeat in their season opener, Footballrover reports
Returning after 15 years, Onome witnessed the Nasarawa Amazons dominate the game at the Aguiyi Ironsi Guards Brigade grounds, securing a comfortable win during Wednesday’s early kickoff.
In the first half, the visitors took a commanding lead, with Ojiyovwi Kesiena and Ayatsea Hembafan scoring within four minutes.
Despite Onome and her Naija Ratels teammates’ efforts in the second half to stage a comeback, the visitors extended their lead to 3-0 in the 60th minute as Hembafan completed her brace, securing a definitive victory and three crucial points.
Barely a minute into stoppage time, the hosts managed to grab a consolation goal through substitute Davies Nora, assisted by Ebi Onome.
The final whistle marked the end of the game, leaving the score at Naija Ratels 1-3 Nasarawa Amazons in Abuja.
